I looked at the name plate in front of my desk, “Lillianne,” misspelled with an added ‘l.’ I gave it my complete attention, anything to look away from what was going around.

“Don’t turn away,” said our professor.

There was a dead body near the podium. Blood seeped in between the thin lines of the wood floors and spread where its path met the least resistance. Every student in the class had gathered with desks around the professor just as he was about to begin the lesson, and all of us had a complete meal waiting on top of our desks. This consisted of steak, mashed potatoes, corn, and water.

“What do your eyes see?” asked our professor. He paused and took a moment to meet everyone’s eyes before continuing. “Last week we learned how to toy with one’s mind under the effects of an illusion. This week, however, will be different.”

At Morning’s End – Chapter 3: A Knock On The Door

We were following the trail up to Daiko’s house all the while I kept a good distance from Mr. Holland. A reminder of his insistence on coming so that he could see for himself what remained of the bones I burned.

“You don’t have to come if you don’t want to,” he said

You burned every piece?” asked the old man.

Every piece that I could find,” I said, taking my seat on the cold ground. The old man went on with selling his small wares and trinkets, little cups with carvings of animals, and finely cut pieces of wood painted with beautiful scenery. One in particular caught my eye, it was a ship sailing through a rough storm and neatly placed stars shining in its background. I looked away as soon as I saw how much the old man was selling it for. Nothing I could afford even if I saved for a month or two, not when food is more important. I took out my empty cup and held it out in front of me.“I haven’t seen him since.”

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou (Novel Review)

ArifuretaI’ve read many web novels by now to see how much effort people put in translating them. While not always great translations, the work put into them will be appreciated.

Arifureta has led me to see a different side to the basic hero we have become accustomed to and transformed them into something else. I won’t spoil it for potential readers, but I will say that I greatly enjoyed the first few volumes of the story that I read. And while some of them had lacking translations, filled with bad grammar, and strange wording, it shouldn’t keep you from enjoying the story.

Synopsis –

Among the class transported to another world, Nagumo Hajime is an ordinary male student who didn’t have ambition nor aspiration in life, and thus called “Incompetent” by his classmates.

This was probably the hundredth time I’ve walked to the house. I would do so once every morning as the sun was rising and the sky a mix of hazy reds. That same early light lit the narrow path that leads to a house, hidden by thick trees and heavy scented smells of rotting wood. Wild plants grew around it and would otherwise trick others into believing the road led nowhere. That’s why of the many times I’ve walked the path, this was the first time I didn’t go alone.

Royal Rebirth – Epilogue: Riot

The self driving bus opened its door and I stepped out, along with two or three others that made this their destination. It was three in the afternoon and the weather couldn’t get colder. I pushed my gloved hands to my mouth and saw my breath in front of me. Then up to the sky that was becoming darker as they began forming together. It might snow or it might rain really cold showers. I then checked my pocket for the key I made sure not to forget, but checked again anyway.

“Where to, ma’am?”

“To the Grand Library,” I said, handing the man twelve copper coins for what is to be a trip through the Dahramn streets. A carriage stood behind him and this was to be his taxi services. I set one foot in the carriage and a left hand to pull myself inside. I sat down and signaled him to begin.

From the opposite side of the carriage, the door opened an in came two ruffians with military uniforms.

Current Map

It’s still the same map, just less land. Also, I realized it looks like a thing with wings. Sort of.

“Aria will be under Talica’s protection from now own,” a phrase I’m reminded of as I looked to the classmate sitting next to me.

Liel—he was now just a few yards in front me, clear as day and I couldn’t help but want to smile, but then stopped myself. For a regrettable reason, he had now become my enemy. No, I’ll need to make sure none of my attacks are lethal. Which goes without saying… but it won’t be the same for anyone else who interferes—not even Lilia.
